nook Privacy Policy
Data We Handle
nook (macOS app and iOS app) handles the following data:
- Configured subscription details (feed URLs, search queries, fetch parameters, custom instructions, etc.)
- Collected article metadata and contents (titles, full text, summary text, images, publication dates, engagement metrics, etc.)
- Organization metadata such as starred status and folder hierarchies
- Ask (Q&A) conversation history in the macOS app
- Connection credentials for external services (API keys, tokens, and AI service sign-in states)
Storage and Synchronization
Collected article data, subscription settings, folder structures, and starred items are stored and synced exclusively within the user's local Mac storage and the user's personal private database on Apple iCloud (CloudKit).
Authentication credentials for external services (such as API keys, tokens, and AI service sign-in states) and Ask conversation history on macOS are never synced to iCloud; they are stored securely and exclusively on the user's Mac (local storage).
No article content, subscription information, or usage activity logs are ever transmitted to or stored on servers operated by the developer (動詞 / doushi).
nook does not display ads, track user activity, or share any information with third-party advertisers or data brokers.
Communication with AI Services
When selecting, summarizing articles, or using Ask in the macOS app, article text and user-configured instructions are transmitted directly to the AI provider with which the user has signed in (OpenAI or Anthropic / Claude Code). AI integration is authenticated via user sign-in rather than by pasting AI API keys directly into the app.
Data handling and privacy practices of each provider are governed by their respective terms of service and privacy policies.
Access to External Sources and Content
To fetch articles and posts from configured subscriptions (RSS/Atom, Hacker News, Reddit, arXiv, X, etc.), the macOS app accesses public APIs or web pages directly. Any credentials required for connection remain securely stored on the user's Mac and are never synced to iCloud or other devices.
In the iOS app as well, network requests are made directly to source servers whenever the user opens original article links or plays external video content.
